Healthy Eating and Diet for Crohn’s Disease Patients

Healthy Eating and Diet for Crohn's Disease Patients

Crohn’s disease is an especially aggravating gastrointestinal condition, which means most patients who are suffering from it are not going to have the same willingness or ability to stick to your facility’s traditional menu. Many ingredients, including high-fiber grains, raw fruits and vegetables, and dairy, all of which are common ingredients in most kitchens, will often even provoke the condition further, leaving patients less likely to finish meals in the future. This, of course, is the biggest concern. As you know, nutrient deficiencies are already a problem for patients with Crohn’s disease thanks to inflammation interfering with proper nutrient absorption. So then, how do your nutrition leaders approach such a problem, and how can Vision Software help?

Focus On Base Nutrition

When dealing with patients with serious dietary restrictions, covering the basics early is the most important thing. At the very least, your patients need ample protein and healthy fats, and adequate calories for energy. If they’re on a steroid for their condition, they may also need additional vitamin D, vitamin K, vitamin B12, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, or selenium incorporated into their diet as well. Vision Software’s resourceful clinical nutrition software, specifically our screening, assessment, and nutritional analysis applications, can help determine precisely which types of deficiencies any particular patient may be suffering so that accurate dietary adjustments can be made accordingly. Meanwhile, our diet history software will keep track of and record even the slightest changes in patient patterns or progress for future assessments.

Encourage Healthy Eating Habits

When it comes to Crohn’s disease, every patient is different, which is why your nutrition staff must always be prepared to guide each one in their own unique health journey – and our technologies at Vision Software are ready to assist. Our room service and tray tracking software applications will start by giving your patients more freedom to eat smaller meals practically whenever they want throughout the day rather than limiting them to a strict mealtime schedule, which should dramatically improve the way they feel. Our diet office software will then keep track of meal patterns and preferences for each patient to make it easier for your nutrition staff to add and subtract different ingredients in the future based on the patients’ past reactions.

Though there may not be a cure for Crohn’s disease just yet, there’s no doubt our amazing foodservice software applications at Vision Software can make the lives of your patients suffering from it profoundly better.
