Segregated Tray-line Prep to Protect those with Allergies

The need for safety when it comes to trayline prep is evident as more and more Americans suffer from food allergies than ever before.

As many as 12 million adults and children in the U.S. alone suffer from some form of food allergy and each year anaphylaxis results in between 150 to 200 deaths. Vision Software‘s innovation has created and implemented food allergy tracking systems that are improving patient safety as well as changing the way hospitals and health care facilities are caring for their patients.

Vision’s Menu Management tool compares the patient’s choices with the patient’s allergy pattern and makes corrections to the selections based on pre-established criteria. Diet Office software interfaces with the patients’ medical record history, including allergies and food restrictions before the food ticket is received by the kitchen and the meal is created by the production staff, preventing accidental events.

If a patient has a life-threatening food allergy, it will be clearly notated upon admission and show up on food orders allowing dietitians to implement and activate the proper procedures and protocol during trayline preparation. Special protocols may require providing HACCP procedures for food preparation in order to avoid possible cross contamination on patient food trays. Vision Software includes allergy management tools built into our diet software that hospital staff can easily follow ensuring patient safety.

To protect your patients’ safety and prevent life-threatening allergy and food-drug interactions, Vision’s Software application compares menu choices to patient-specific medication lists. The system will also flag drugs prescribed to patients that have a potential to affect nutritional status, and identify situations in which interaction with nutrients will alter absorption and metabolism of medications, and generate food allergy menus with alternate meal choices when needed.
