The VST System

VST ONLINE: YOUR PERSONAL INTERNET SOLUTION (SaaS)
Low capital budgets, improved cash flow, immediate returns, and elimination of the burden of information systems administration are just a few of the reasons businesses in all segments are adopting the Software as a Service (SaaS) information systems model.

Why SaaS?
SaaS, sometimes called "on-demand software," delivers full-blown software applications using Internet technologies… providing your operation with secure, private Web access to centralized applications that are maintained and managed by the software developer.

Software as a service (SaaS) is a software application delivery model where a software vendor develops a Web-native software application and hosts and operates (either independently or through a third-party) the application for use by its customers over the Internet. Customers pay not for owning the software itself but for using it. They use it through an API accessible over the Web and often written using Web Services or REST. The term SaaS has become the industry preferred term, generally replacing the earlier terms Application Service Provider (ASP), On-Demand and "Utility computing". (WIKIPEDIA)

Secure, private delivery over the Internet centralizes the entire system administration on a private Web server outside your operation, and is available to you on your own PCs through a secure Internet connection.

An industry White Paper, Software-as-a-Service: A Comprehensive Look at the Total Cost of Ownership of Software Applications examines the bottom line of choosing this model of software delivery in which you “pay as you go”. Key points include:

  • With traditional software investments, an organization may spend up to 75% of its IT budget maintaining the system—much of this in personnel costs.
  • Outsourcing the “back-end” infrastructure of your information system via SaaS is much more cost-effective.
  • Choosing SaaS delivery allows you to implement more software application power and functionality for each budget dollar spent.
  • SaaS grows most easily with your business needs.

With VST Online, you can enjoy the rich and powerful features of VST software on a monthly subscription basis with virtually no hardware investment (remember, you don't even need to buy a network server), and virtually no administrative overhead. Save money, and leave it to the experts!

Hosting Details
All of the server equipment is provided by VST and is located in a secure Tier-II hosting facility. You access your data through VST applications running over the Internet, using a secure high-speed connection. At the VST hosting facility, your applications and data files are connected to the Internet backbone, and you communicate with them through a virtual private network (VPN). Every transaction — data flowing in both directions — to and from your workstations, printers, and interfaces and the Web server — uses state-of-the-art encryption technologies to support data security and HIPAA compliance for all your critical and confidential data.

Internet administration services at the hosting site include turnkey maintenance, with up-time monitoring, 24/7 administrative oversight, routine backups, operating system upgrades, and VST application upgrades in an electronically and physically secured environment. Industry-standard redundancy such as UPS backup, backup generators, fire suppression systems, and hardware availability are all part of the server management package.

The cost of the server equipment, equipment maintenance, equipment upgrades, bandwidth, VPN connection, backup and update services, and all administration is included in the monthly subscription fee. VST assists in the set-up and testing of the applications on workstations and printers at the facility via remote access.

Compare for Yourself!
Take a look at typical features of traditional client/server in-house solutions operating on your network, versus the subscription option:

In-House Network SaaS by Subscription from VST
Requires capital budget approval Virtually NO capital expenditure
Moderate IS/IT management overhead NO IS/IT management overhead
Must purchase, install, maintain, and replace server hardware No server equipment required
Extended timeframe from initial budget request to implementation Shortened timeline; faster benefits
Must purchase software license a la carte All software licenses and interfaces included
Traditional annual support fee Monthly subscription fee

Cash Flow Analysis
A traditional client/server solution may take up to six years to generate full return on investment. But when you choose a SaaS solution, start-up costs are near-zero, and ongoing expenses are steady and predictable. Your operation's cash flow is protected, and returns are immediate!
