Paul Hubbard, VST Client, Earns Innovator Award
VST client Paul Hubbard, Associate Director for Food Services, Stony Brook University Hospital and The Long Island State Veteran's Home (Long Island, NY), will receive the prestigious Spotlight on Innovation Award from The National Society for Healthcare Foodservice Management (HFM), to be bestowed at the HFM Annual Conference Hot Springs, VA, Sept. 15-19, 2008.
Hubbard has played a role in reducing the carbon footprint of the foodservice operations through a variety of action plans, including paperless reporting systems powered by technologies, recycling and education, and a focus on both food and non-food supply acquisition strategies.
HFM’s selection of award recipients is based on “innovation, impact on the healthcare facility, cost effectiveness, resourcefulness, uniqueness, quality improvement, expanding service parameters, and applicability to other facilities,” as outlined in the HFM nomination documents.
VST is proud to congratulate both Stony Brook and Hubbard for their industry leadership in this critical arena.

Services, University of Florida, Shands Hospital, Gainesville, has
been named as President-Elect of the American Society for Healthcare
Food Service Administrators.
Since joining ASHFSA in the early 1990s, Bill
has been very active on numerous local and national ASHFSA committees.
According to Bill, he has been "a member of ASHFSA most of
my professional life and have most of all valued the memberships
willingness to share information. ASHFSA provides each of us the
opportunity to face our challenges with the help of our peers."
Bill credits ASHFSA for helping him grow professionally through
their educational conferences and membership involvement. His past
ASHFSA involvement has been as a member of the Publications Committee
in 1993, as a roundtable moderator in 1994 at the Educational Conference

split between 13 years as a contractor and 23 years as a self-op.
Bill has also given back to the field by being a preceptor for Framingham

Interactive Hospital Menus Reach Prime Time
Maybe it’s because a television close to
the bedside doesn’t feel like a “computer”. Maybe
it’s because there is no keyboard or mouse. But patients at
Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, are embracing new, sophisticated
technology powering the ordinary “TV set” to place menu
control and more at their fingertips—the first system of its
kind in any hospital today, said Michael Babines, Vice Pres., Vision
