Morton Plant Mease Food & Nutrition Director Receives Service Award
Janet Simon, MHA, RD/LDN, the Food & Nutrition Services director of Morton Plant Mease Health Care, was presented with a
visionary award by Vision Software Technologies, Inc. (VST) for her 30 years of commitment to food service technology and software.
In 1979, Morton Plant initiated one of the first automated hospital food production systems in the country. Since that time, the hospital has served
23 million meals processed through the system, with a cumulative food cost savings of over 1 million dollars. The operation has also saved more than
1 FTE, representing $2 million to date through diet office automation. Virtual elimination of late trays has saved another $3 million in expenses.

the bedside doesn’t feel like a “computer”. Maybe
it’s because there is no keyboard or mouse. But patients at
Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ, are embracing new, sophisticated
technology powering the ordinary “TV set” to place menu
control and more at their fingertips—the first system of its
kind in any hospital today, said Michael Babines, Vice Pres., Vision
